our programs are funded by the commonwealth home support program (chsp).

The CHSP provides small amounts of entry-level support to assist older people aged 65 years and over (50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) to remain living at home and in their community.

CHSP services may be short-term, intermittent or ongoing, and have a strong focus on activities that support independence and social connectedness and considers each person’s individual goals and choices.

Byron Shire Respite Service receives funding to subsidise 5 CHSP services: Flexible Respite, Centre based Respite, Social Support Group, Social Support Individual and Transport. The respite services allow carers to take a break from their usual caring responsibilities and our Social Support services provide community access and social activities. If you or your loved one have a referral code for CHSP for one of these services, you will be able to attend our programs below:

My Aged Care is the entry point to the aged care system for older people, their families and carers and is responsible for conducting assessments for the CHSP. My aged care can also support with more complex support for older people who are able to continue living in their own homes with assistance a range of care options and accommodation for older people who are unable to continue living in their own home.
