Support for Carers
Our tailored services provide a much-needed break for carers
to recharge, refocus, and find balance.
Caring for Carers
The dedication and compassion of carers is invaluable, but we know that the emotional and physical toll can be significant, leaving little time for carers to focus on their own needs and well-being. That’s why Byron Shire Respite Service is here to support carers with a range of services designed to provide them with a much-needed break.
Whether it’s just for a few hours or an entire day on a regular basis, our respite services allow carers the time to pursue their own interests, run errands, or simply recharge. We’re also here in times of crisis—if carers are suddenly or temporarily unable to care for their loved one due to illness, an accident, or changes in their life circumstances.
Our services are tailored to ensure that carers can continue their important work while also taking care of themselves. After all, caring for others starts with caring for yourself.

Welcome to the
Carers Coffee Club
Our Carers Coffee Club is a warm, welcoming space where you can connect with others who truly understand the challenges and joys of caring. Whether you’re new to caring, new to the Byron Shire, or have been a carer for years, our monthly meetings offer a chance to chat, share experiences, and make new friends.
We bring together carers from the local community, creating a confidential space where you can express yourself freely, be heard, and exchange tips on how to handle some of the challenges that being a carer of a loved one with dementia brings. Whether you’re looking to share what’s worked for you or seeking advice on local services, you’ll find others ready to listen and help.
So, bring your questions, concerns, and experiences. Meet new friends and enjoy the support of a community that cares. For details of the next Carers Coffee Club, reach out to us at 6685 1629 or email caremanager@byronrespite.com. We look forward to seeing you there!
Carers Counselling
Byron Shire Respite Service has partnered with Sandra Kimball, a nationally recognised Carer Counsellor, to deliver the Celebrating Carers program. This program offers one-on-one mental health sessions specifically designed for those caring for a loved one or friend over the age of 65.
These sessions, grounded in counselling principles, focus on strengthening your mental wellbeing so you can be at your best in your caregiving role. Sandra Kimball, who has a deep passion for listening to and valuing people’s life stories, understands the challenges of being a carer firsthand. Her experience with her partner, who received support from Byron Shire Respite Service for six years, inspired her to become a counsellor with the National Carer Counselling Program.
Thanks to a generous donation, the Celebrating Carers program offers Byron Respite clients three FREE counselling sessions. Additional sessions, or sessions for those not currently accessing our services, are available for just $15.
