CENTRE-BASED DAY RESPITE
CENTRE-BASED DAY RESPITE
A Welcomed Break - day respite at our centres
Our popular centre-based day respite program, A Welcome Break, offers our clients a social and wellbeing outlet, while providing a well-deserved break for their carers. With two locations in the Northern Rivers, the program creates a warm and supportive environment and fosters connections through meaningful activities tailored to a diverse range of needs, including specialised care for those living with dementia. Participants enjoy a variety of creative and enjoyable activities, including gentle exercise, performances, arts & crafts, music, and cognitive stimulation all designed to encourage social interactions and personal growth. We also offer freshly cooked, healthy meals that cater to dietary needs, with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea included. Additionally, transport is available to and from most locations.
The program is both flexible and age-appropriate, ensuring that physical needs are met while fostering a supportive environment – we also cater to individuals with younger onset dementia, disabilities, as well as people with other physical needs through our tailored activities.

The benefits for our clients
Our day programs offer a space where clients can truly be themselves, often returning home happier and more engaged. Research supports the benefits of these programs—a 2018 study by Cohen-Mansfield found that brain games can boost mood, singing reduces daytime sleepiness, and group activities like gentle exercise encourage active participation and foster a positive mindset (Cohen-Mansfield, J. The impact of group activities and their content on persons with dementia attending them, Alz Res Therapy 10, 37, 2018)
